Mahiro starts the series having run off to some unknown location, already being gone a month. He dropped everything and disappeared, approximately a year after the event of his family's deaths. His entire family has been murdered, and there has been no resolution on who the killer is.
Mahiro returns on the scene in a swarm of butterflies as Yoshino's rescuer, knocking down Faulein Annette Yamamoto with a kick to the head. When Annette shoots at him, he manages to stop the bullets with protection magic, giving a cocky question of what would you have done if you had got me? The protection magic leads Annette to believe that he is in league with a sorcerer.
Swarms of butterflies indicate a magical source that is spreading and causing people to fall prone to an "iron illness" that turns their bodies to metal. It is for this reason that Mahiro follows them, looking for this magical source. The sorcerers, the enemy of Princess Hakaze Kusaribe, are trying to awaken something, and that awakening is the source of the iron illness, faulting them for wanting more power.
He is on Hakaze's side, simply because she promises to find his sister's killer, communicating with her through a wooden doll imbued with her powers just enough for it to work like a walkie-talkie. To him, this adds up, because Aika's murder wasn't fair, and magic isn't fair. It's a trade-off, and one that he's too willing to make. He promises to kill Aika's murderer.
It is revealed that it is not Samon and the Tree of Exodus that are in the wrong, but Hakaze and the Tree of Genesis that will bring about the end of the world.
In a flashback, Aika asks Mahiro what he wishes to be to her. He answers with, "Well, what can I be to you?" Aika and Mahiro are not blood related, and Mahiro does not realise that he has more intense feelings for Aika than as just a sister. He has no idea what he wants from her, though he has the jealousy reactions.
Personality:
He's very angry and frustrated at the fact that his family's murderer has never been caught. There is no evidence to work with, and he feels that nothing makes sense. He declares that he will find a way to make it all add up. He's not satisfied without an answer. According to Yoshino, Mahiro isn't the sort to just "go around rescuing people" without another driving factor. Or to just give out his name to such people.
Mahiro is a rather snide character, witha very my way or the highway attitude, only complying with others if it brings him closer to his goals. He doesn't care what it takes to meet his ends, saving the world or destroying it, it's all secondary to him.
He gives cocky quips, and tends to hold what he wants over other people's heads, making it no secret what he wants and that he'll do anything to get it. "I don't care if the world falls apart. But you know what, I'm still gonna save the world."
He doesn't believe in a Heaven, saying that dead people don't get happy or sad.
Mahiro's cockiness gets him into trouble almost consistently. Even when Hakaze tells him not to take on a real sorcerer, he resolves to take the sorcerer down right away. But the sorcerer isn't limited to talismans, meaning that Mahiro will give out long before the sorcerer.
As always, here's the section you want to be thorough on. If you're having trouble, ask yourself about your character motivations, how they interact with strangers or friends, what drives them, and how their personalities have developed and grown throughout canon. Inventory:
Talismans - These are infused with the ability of magic, thanks to Hakaze. However, these will run out of magic power fairly quickly and will disintegrate after they are used up. These include such items as jewelry, chains, or small weapons.
A necklace with a small, wooden doll attached by a nail - this is his communication line with Hakaze, which will of course be severed in Hadriel.
Weapons, pets, the kitchen sink? If it's on your character at the time of their canon point and it can fit through an 8' by 4' hole, then they can bring it in. Vehicles, large mechs, and pet elephants, however, will have to stay at home.
Abilities:
Magic Inclination - Is able to use this when only provided with items imbued with power already. While he has access to the skill, he lacks the ability to imbue these items himself, and thus is reliant on others to keep things powered for him in order to use magic properly. Though these may be subject to change, the magic he gains from Hakaze allows him to produce protection, healing, feats of strength, flight, and teleportation skills. His magic source will not allow its followers to attack directly. For example, he cannot cut you like a blade. However, he may be able to lift a car and throw it at you, using it as an indirect means.
Athletics - Is highly agile and quick. Able to jump higher and farther than the average human. He also uses this to effectively strike blows in hand-to-hand combat.
Flaws: In theory, the Door only brings in evil and chaos. Here is where you would detail the chaotic parts of your character- let us know some of the bad things about them, maybe some of the wicked acts they've done, why they could have been swept up by the Door. Even small things, like 'he gets angry when someone steals his lunch at work' or 'she oversleeps all the time' will count. If your character is the purest cinnamon roll to ever exist and has nothing horrible about them, then you can put that in this section as well and be an exception to the rule.
SAMPLES
